What does a Pilbara TAFE Lecturer do?

A Lecturer works closely with students to help them achieve their goals. You’ll teach them ‘the tricks of your trade’.

You’ll teach and assess the performance of your students as they work towards achieving a satisfactory level of competence.

It’s all about demonstrating, coaxing, encouraging and praising their efforts. Good lecturers engage students in the learning process.

You’ll conduct workplace training and assessment in a variety of locations such as classrooms, workshops and in the field.

Your students will see you as their mentor. They’ll ask your opinion and seek your advise.

In addition, Lecturers need to help develop and improve our education and training programs. You’ll also be responsible for looking after the College’s equipment and resources.

It’s essential to keep in close contact with your industry (community) so you’re aware of its changing needs and any new technologies and techniques that may need to be taught.

What qualifications do I need to be a Lecturer?

You don’t need to have formal teaching qualifications to become a Pilbara TAFE Lecturer. What we’re looking for are qualified and experienced tradesmen/industry and community participants with the personality and temperament required to share ‘the tricks of your trade’.

It’s a requirement that, as a minimum, you attain a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment within the first two years of your employment. Pilbara TAFE will provide ongoing professional development to help you achieve this. You do this training as part of your normal working week and you are fully paid while doing it.

Salary Packaging

Pilbara TAFE employees can access Salary Packaging arrangements that help you achieve significant tax savings.

Instead of receiving your whole salary as taxable income you can take a proportion as salary packaging payments for things like a motor vehicle lease, superannuation contributions and a lap top computer.

This effectively reduces the amount of PAYG tax payable and increases your disposable income.
